Is it just me, or is this directory a well-hidden secret?

/usr/share/doc/HOWTO/HTML/en

The directory has a tutorial in it for everything!
It has taken me months to find this!

I do not remember reading about this in my NOObie
docs. Or maybe it just takes a while for me to "get it".

Anyway, any NOObies out there who need a tutorial
on just about any subject can probably find it in there
without spending the rest of your life in Google.

Doh!

P.S. If this is common knowledge, I am accepting
dopeslaps.

hmmm... actually there's a link to it in kde and gnome, under documentation; there's also a linux manual, which doesn't only have tricks, but a complete reference on how to switch from windblows to linux and all, and also has tips for commonly used software under linux..... which is also under documentation.....
Germ
Yep, lots of good info there.

AND for the Great Grand PooBah of HowTo sites there's always
http://www.tldp.org/ The Linux Documentation Project
Or you can download all the newest ones and update the ones in your distro.
Now, the one caveat that you should know, from one n00bie to another, is that alot of them come from RedHat or some other distro and in My experience when you go to look for a file or drectory to edit or check to see if it's written right, it ain't there.
I know that this may sound detracting to some of the more experienced members here, but I'd like to save you from some of the exasperation that I went through and let you know what to expect.
One of the major aggravations that I had in dealing with Mandrake was not only my own ignorance but no place that I had searched through said anything about the directory structure being different from one distro to another, especially regarding the HowTo's.
Forwarned is...........
Admin might delete this as being negative but so be it. It's something a n00b should know.

I think that many users who use manual package selection, do not select to install documentation and live in ignorance of this treasure chest (I did oops.gif ).
banjo
Well, I did install it......... and then I didn't know
where it was... oops.gif

I did eventually find the links to the directory right
there in the KDE menu under Documentation oops.gif

So there you go.

Re. the differences in file structures...... being an
old Unix hack I do tend to poke around and cat out
all manner of things just to see what is in 'em.
One of the best places to look is in the /proc directory,
which did not exist on the Unix systems that I first
learned on. A lot has changed since 1976.........

... oops............. did I say that out loud?....

Well, this old dog is learning new tricks every day.

I am soooo glad that I am bailing out of fnWindoze.
